SUMMARY The Vitruvian man was made to show the relationship between architecture and the human body. A man named Vitruvius believed that the proportions and measurements of the human body were perfect and correct, so he proposed that a properly constructed temple should reflect and relate to the parts of the human body. Leonardo Da Vinci then tested this proposal with a pen and ink drawing of a male figure whose outstretched limbs touch the circumference of a circle and the edges of a square. Many others had attempted this but Leonardo was the first to succeed.
